A Future full of Surprises

 James Gilbert-Roy

The world as we know it has gone through much and has also evolved a lot in these last few years. Technologies have been developed, perfected and some are even in progress as I am writing this text, but what about the technologies that could see the day in the future? Personally, I think that these technologies will be revolutionary and I am about to prove it by introducing two of them to you.

The first technology that would have a major impact on our future would definitely be the 3D printer. It consists in printing an object with your computer by using a special printer. It is certain that there are some more complicated details to all of this but developers are working on it and the industry of 3D printing is growing by 35% of efficiency each year. One of the biggest things about it is that it’s already an industry of 3.1 billion dollars, which is a lot and helps a lot to the good development of this incredible technology. Even the President of the United States, Barack Obama himself, has declared that 3D printing has the potential to revolutionize the way we make almost everything. It is already being used in some countries, even though it is not really perfected, but the point about it is that there is so much more to do with it and it is only a matter of time before we can print a lot of useful things with it like an acoustic guitar or even camera lens. It is really amazing that a simple object of almost any shape or geometry could be printed from a digital model with this powerful printer. Obviously, 3D printers will be really expensive when they get on the market, but aren’t they an exceptional invention?

The second one has appeared in a lot of futuristic movies and video games through the last fifty years and it is really impressive. The jetpack is a technology that may see the day sooner than expected because scientists are already working on prototypes and trying to perfect them. A group of scientists called Jetpack International has already created a hydrogen peroxide-fuel jetpack that can fly up to 77 miles per hour at a maximum height of 250 feet. This jetpack’s maximum length of flight is only of 33 seconds and it could travel a distance of 3 300 feet. Certainly, this is really far from what we see in movies and what people have in mind when we talk about jetpacks, but still, it is a work in progress and this could lead to a new revolution of people traveling with jetpacks all over the world.

It is true that our world has gone through a lot of things since its beginning and so did men, but what if all of those technologies of the future could change the way humans live? Vehicles have changed a lot of things on this planet and what is to come could make us go through even bigger changes.
